Lugano, Switzerland, June 18, 2009 - Datamars (Booth #4856), a leading global supplier of high-performance RFID-based solutions for companion animal and textile identification, introduces an industry-first RFID-based automatic sorting capability that makes automatic sorting systems more affordable by mid-size industrial launderers. IntelliSort RFID provides the speed and accuracy of higher end autosortation systems but at a price affordable by mid-size industrial launderers. The system is so unique that Datamars has a patent pending.
Developed in conjunction with Softrol (Booth #2703), an Atlanta-based developer of automation software and sorting systems, the system includes Datamars RFID LaundryChips™, readers and antennas and the Softrol SoftSort system.
The system is 99.7% accurate and garments can be read from a distance of up to three feet (~one meter) and at speeds of up to 180 items/minute. The combination of speed, accuracy and read range, have enabled the new sorting and sequencing system to read while the garments remain on standard or long-neck hangers-a feature once only possible with higher end systems using special microchipped "mother hook" hangers. Additional benefits of the RFID-based autosortation system include:
- Up to 20% reduction in circulating inventory
- Dramatic labor reductions whether converting from man-read or bar code labels
- Virtually eliminates shortage reporting and uniform mismatches
- Minimized initial investment - the system can often use existing equipment
- Modular, flexible design enables a phased-in approach while still delivering reasonable ROI for industrial launderers processing as little as 2,000-6,000 garments/day.
"Until now mid-size launderers couldn't justify the ROI of an automated sorting system due to the hefty upfront investment. Now, for about half the cost of a high end autosortation system, mid-size launderers can automate the sorting process and still see a reasonable payback, while easily expanding their system to allow for future growth," said Ken Boyle, chief marketing officer.
The combined Datamars Intellisort RFID system and Softrol SoftSort system is currently running at Doritex, a Buffalo based industrial launderer and work wear rental business. Company owner, Jim Doro, deployed the system at his new 80,000 square foot facility to help drive business growth and gain a competitive edge. "We increased our throughput by 50-60% without adding people, and reduced 'mis-ties' [a term that describes errors in matching garment sets such as shirts and pants] by 90%," said Doro.
